Trees: good for the environment but bad for your health?

Driving to work the other morning, I had to weave past a horde of yellow city trucks with tree trimming equipment and chippers in tow. I didn’t think much of it, assuming it was routine tree trimming, until I left my office for lunch and notice this unfortunate vehicle mashed into the pavement across the street.

Poor thing never had a chance.

I’ve seen this kind of thing before - as last winter’s heavy rains tore up numerous trees in San Francisco. And Sacramento certainly isn’t hurting for tree stories. As I’ve mentioned before, 2 students at a neighboring college were killed by a falling branch when I was a freshman in college. It’s possibly the stupidest fear to have - but I can’t help but turn a suspect eye toward those cooling, innocent looking leafy killers hovering heavily above our collective heads. I’d hate to see mass chopping, but let’s hope the city is vigilant in its regular upkeep. I’d hate for it to be my car - or my head - that prompts maintenance on my street.
