Fountains of my discontent

Yesterday while on my daily walk through midtown, I came to Winn Park, a cute little park not far from the office. It was mid-morning, and of course the sprinklers were on. I think they do this to discourage the county aid applicants and homeless from napping on the grass. I don’t mind sprinklers–they keep the grass green– but the whole east side of the park was a row of malfunctioning geyser sprinklers–indeed, a Yellowstone park lover’s delight. Unfortunately, these geyser sprinklers were watering the sidewalks. And they have been for some time, judging by the yellowing grass nearby. Hey, I like fountains as much as anybody, but it makes me wonder if anybody cares. Hopefully they’ll be fixed soon.

Reminds me of the system outside my apartment complex which daily creates a Lake Midtown. I suppose I should give it extra credit for doing so on the days when the excessive heat should evaporate most of it anyway.

Lordy - I know this isn’t a drought area, but shouldn’t the city and landlords fix those things AND not water during the day when doing so is completely inefficient?
