Tower Bridge, detail

bridgedetail.JPG

I recall when the powers that be were contemplating what color to repaint the bridge - the choices were, I believe, gold, pink, or some other pointless shade. Many friends commented that the golden hue slathered on the already less than attractive bridge was possibly the most awful thing they’d ever seen.

I love it though. Bridge over a troubled river delta system. The public policy implications. The architecture. The shiny goldness of it all. Mmmm, shiny . . . . .

It was gold, green/silver, and red/silver. Can you tell I didn’t vote for gold? By the way, did you notice the drip on the side there? Hmmm, who painted that bridge, anyway?

That drip is a bridge-tear. And it’s crying because you keep calling it ugly.

Why do you dis the Tower Bridge? It’s no great span of spanny bridgeness, it only has to cross a narrow channel, but it’s ours, it works, and the “new” color isn’t that far off from the “old” color.

I’ve always quite liked it, although the sidewalks could be wider.

If I recall correctly from the news reports when the color was changed (because I wasn’t alive to see the original color), it was originally green and silver.

I really don’t mind the gold, especially at sundown. And John is right, it’s not that different from the “old” color.

Actually I like the bridge, especially at night….when the lights are off. No, really, the drive over it when you see the Capitol at the end is really striking. Too bad we’re gonna have our own “twin towers” at the end of the mall…maybe that’s why the bridge is crying?
