Sacramento Retailers Raised in Barns

My coworker and I took a quick trip to the (wrong) mall today at lunch. Days like today were not made for Downtown Plaza - the outdoor shopping mall that can be quite pleasant on mild spring of autumn days. We shoulda gone to Arden Fair - farther away but much cooler.

Speaking of cool, however, I couldn’t help but feel my internal temperature rise even higher as we wandered past store after store with front doors propped fully open.

We know you’re open for business, morons. But when using rising fuel and energy costs as an excuse for inflating the price of goods, a retailer might consider abadonning its desire to air condition the whole of downtown and focus instead on its own retail space. Shoot, didn’t their mommas teach them anything? Basic laws of thermodynamics? Common sense?

Pretty much every paper this week has noted the daily electrical records being set during this hit wave - google it and see for yourself. So is it too much to ask for some really simple measures to conserve energy? Forget Spare The Air measures, just close the freakin’ door.

Didn’t the cool air draw you in? I think that was their point. And if it’s good for business…conservation be da**ed. Who wants to shop in a steamy Bath and Body Works, anyway?

Wait, aren’t baths supposed to be steamy? =)
