From July’s National Geographic:
“It’s a frustrating fact that the Mudslide, without a doubt Nature’s most delectable cookie, is also one of the most difficult to track and locate. Despite its strong and delicious scent, trackers throughout the Sacramento region have had difficulty finding the Mudslide with any consistency.

“Some trackers have even gone so far as to claim that the Mudslide is in fact a mythical cookie. How, they wonder, could a cookie retain a scrumptious molten chocolate inside and yet retain a satisfyingly crispy exterior?

“One local eatery, however, seems to have found the answer. Ambrosia Cafe on K and 11th Streets regularly sells Mudslide cookies. While owners of Ambrosia Cafe were reluctant to say whether these Mudslides were captured in the wild or grown in captivity, they are nonetheless Sacramento’s most delicious cookie.”
