Chalkmeisters in town

Yes, it’s that time again. The Chalk people will be prettying up the sidewalks at Fremont Park at 16th and P Streets downtown. If you’ve ever felt guilty on stepping on a sidewalk crack (you know the old saying, “step on crack, break your mother’s back”), you might REALLY feel the guilt walking ’round the park after some of the beauties they draw on the sidewalks. Last year, I nearly tripped over myself so I wouldn’t step on the face of a beautifully drawn woman on one of the concrete canvases. If you can’t get out there to watch the art in progress or buy a beer this weekend, check the sidewalks out later in the week or even…any weekend this month. Many of the drawings are “fixed” and stick around until the heavy rains of October and November.

It’s not just art for art’s sake, it’s also for a good cause–art education funding.
