Is the arena dead?

The Bee reported today that 23% of likely voters plan to vote for Measure R (the 1/4 cent sales tax), while 58% are opposed and 19% undecided. What’s interesting is that support for Measure Q (how to spend it) is almost double that (42%). Downtown development is taking off on its own, but we will still need cultural amenities to complement the housing and retail. People in Sacramento are willing to subsidize redevelopment projects–even an arena–but it seems the Yes on Q&R campaign hasn’t convinced voters of why this deal is such a great one.

In answer to your title question…I am thinking/hoping it’s dead. I’d rather my taxes go to shore up the 100 new critical levee sites that have recently been “uncovered” due to low water levels. Plain and simple self preservation.
