How do you like them apples?

Tis the season. Now’s the time to hop in the family sedan and roll eastward up the US 50 to Apple Hill. We usually go about this time every year, and there’s plenty to see, do, and eat.

But the funny thing is, the spouse and I seem to always miss out on actually buying apples. I mean, duh, you can buy just about anything baked with apples and apple preserves of all types, but where can you find the bulk fresh apples? Last year we made a trip up in my third trimester, and we found really good pie a la mode and promptly ate it overlooking a cow pasture. As some teenagers I know would say…Sweeet. But, somehow we missed the bulk apples and came back down the hill sans boxes–full-bellied, of course–but a little ashamed at our apple-empty hands.

This weekend there’s some fun for the kiddies at one farm and Bluegrass music at another…as well as the usual pie, pottery, and preserves all over the hill. If you get a chance, let us know which farm you visit to get a good-sized basket or box of fresh apples. Which apples do you prefer? Help this poor apple-challenged family finally buy their own. We promise you good apple karma. Really.

My kids (ok my wife and I to) always love the apple fritters there. They are the best!

    You’re right–the apple fritters are good–and there’s usually a line! But apples, plain apples….where?
