Funeral procession downtown tomorrow

patch.jpg
Tomorrow they’ll be having the funeral service for Officer Jeff Mitchell in the downtown area. At about 1 PM or 1300 hours, there will be a procession down N Street, with a right on 11th to Riverside Blvd. Expect serious traffic, especially if it is still raining. Officials in the area expect the procession to take a good 45 minutes to clear downtown.

This officer’s killer is still at large. For more info on Officer Mitchell or to leave your electronic regards, visit the Officer Down Memorial Page.

UPDATE: Downtown bus and light rail service will suspended during the funeral service. Read more below…

From the SACRT PIO:

The Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) buses and trains will not operate in the downtown Sacramento area during the Friday afternoon funeral procession for a Sacramento County Deputy. RT has been notified that the funeral procession is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m, and downtown traffic may be disrupted until 3 p.m. or later. During this interval, light rail trains will not operate between 16th Street and Cathedral Square, although RT will operate buses to carry passengers between the two stations. But stations at 13th Street, Archives Plaza, 8th and O St., Capitol and St. Rose will not be served by trains or buses. Also, all downtown RT buses will detour around the downtown area during the procession, so most of the downtown bus stops will not be served.
