The tree is lit!

The Christmas Tree in front of the Capitol was lit last night. I do have footage on my camera phone, and will try to get it connected to this site (if that’s possible) later . . . but in short, there was a lot of talking, a bit of singing, and then lights.

Maria and her husband assured onlookers – often – that the tree was powered by alternative power sources (hydrogen fuel cell). He also mentioned several times that the names of 40+ officers injured in the line of duty were on the tree, along with 1500 ornaments handmade by children with developmental disabilities.

As I was leaving, Anita Baker began to sing . . . . probably the only nonpolitically motivated portion of the event, and I missed it. Sigh.
