LJ Urban presents a thing with a three-wheeled car!

We’ve received this announcement from local bloggers and eco-happy developers LJ Urban:

Next Thursday (12/14), at 6pm, we’re gathering as many eco-urbanists as we can find at Old Soul to help us inscribe our new, three-wheeled, electric, company car with eco-urban messages. Yes, you did read that correctly. It’s a scribble-fest. Crazy, eh?

Our idea is this. We’ve got this cool car (a Zap Xebra, the first in Sacramento, in fact) and wanted do a custom skin for it. But, rather than skinning it with a great big company logo and tag line; we thought, “Why not use this as an opportunity to engage Sacramento in a dialogue about eco-urban community.”

Then, we thought: if it’s about community, why not invite the community to participate. So, we’ll have the question “What is Eco-Urban” in large font on both sides and then all of our hand-written “answers” scribbled all over the rest of the car. Voila!–the car becomes its own expression of eco-urban community: message and mission adjoined (with zero emissions, to boot).

In a town where development is as omnipresent as fall foliage, LJ Urban seems to have the inside track on uniting the practical, commercial aspects of building and nurturing that “but we love the community” feeling that should make sick-with-liberal-guilt-yuppy-Sacramentans dizzy with soul-embracing pleasure. And though this probably reads snarky - the gang at LJ Urban does seem to be more in-tune and happy to be serving the community than other nameless, monolithic developers that are currently blocking lanes around town. Of course the better questions are probably whether they’ll join the parade of $1500 studios upping the ante on chic core living in mid and downtown (and beyond). At the end of the day, though, you can’t fault them for giving a shit. In fact, you should probably be applauding.

Oh - if you want to doodle the electric teeny car, don’t be a putz, your mama raised you better: RSVP so there’s enough coffee and treats:

If you are coming, Old Soul needs a general idea of how much to prepare, so give us a heads-up and let us know if you’re bringing others. Just e-mail me at Jason at ljurban dot com. That said, if you forget, don’t let it stop you from coming.

(Yeah, I edited the email address into a less spamable form - but you can piece it together.)
