Let It Snow…. In Sacramento?

Just maybe if we wish hard enough. Long-time TV meteorologist Tom Loffman is going out on a snowy limb and predicting snow in our sleepy town for next Thursday. Snowman2.JPG

Apparently there’s an Arctic cold front that will be descending on us next Wednesday and there’s a chance for precipitation next Thursday. Other meteorologists aren’t so sure. And the Weather Channel is predicting some cold overnight temperatures next week, with a slight chance of precipitation, but shows clear skies that night.

It doesn’t snow very often – hardly ever – in Sacramento. I seem to recall a few flakes one Christmas in the 1980s, 1988 according to the Bee graphic. The Bee dug up a picture from 1976. And I found this picture, from Elverta in 2002. (H/t Weather Underground).

On the other hand, maybe snow wouldn’t be such a good idea. People around here nearly forget how to drive when it rains, so perhaps snow on the Sacramento roadways wouldn’t be the best thing, but it should would be nice to look at.
