I Do, Somewhere
Sacramento is nothing if not a scenic town. Sure, people from other larger, better-known and widely photographed urban centers think they’ve got it made - but we’re a Tree City USA, dammit. With plenty of parks, a nice selection of handsomly decorated restaurants, and even more ballrooms than your average mid-size city, thanks to our concentration of lobbyists in need of fundraising venues, finding a place to hold a swanky event should be easy.
And it probably is, unless you’re trying to plan a wedding.
Say “wedding” and the Sacramentan mind leaps automatically to the Sterling, Vizcaya, the Capitol Park rose garden, and a see of peach colored walls, white tablecloths and chairs, and wedding albums interchangeable with thousands of other Sacramento brides.
Yawn.
So where do you go? This month’s Sacramento Magazine features an article on some area couples and where they wed (mostly out-of-town). The online selection of such articles is limited - and even the print version seems to be an excuse to sell advertising to vendors in town for last weekend’s CalExpo bridal fair. (It’s not that I dislike Sacramento Magazine, you just have to appreciate them for what they are).
So where do Sacramentans in love go to tie the knot in this town? Places less peach and more posh? What’s out-of-the-ordinary but still traditional? And most importantly - what place won’t mark up their rates 20% when you drop the “W” bomb on them? When asking for price quotes, what event do you describe? Will “just a party” cut it? And most importantly, do any restaurateurs read this site and have I blown my cover?

I know of one who married at the Vizcaya–expensive. Better go with with Justice of the Peace. In court once, and never again. Congrats, by the way!
