For all the tea in Midtown

A few months back, a new, space-age, clean-lined store opened on K Street in Midtown. It’s called Hina’s and its all about tea. Located next door to the more homey, eclectic True Love Cafe and across from Rick’s Dessert Diner, Hina’s creates one of the more interesting food blocks in town.
I popped in the other day, camera in hand, to capture some of the tea action . . . .

The Hina’s website is as minimalistic as its store. Full of tea, scant on details. Being without-wallet and intent on finishing my afternoon photo-stroll, I didn’t get much of a chance to chat with the two women working that afternoon, though both were friendly and tolerant of my snappy (photo, not ‘tude) ways.
The wall of teas is impressive. Several walls, really. Some bagged, some in jars. Teapots everywhere. It feels medicinal, but not in a bad way - all that stark white sterility seems to promote clarity and good health. I loved the (appropriate) leave motif that touches all aspect of the interior design and even spills out to the sidewalk in front of the store. It’s mid-century modern meets time-honored tradition and it’s lovely.

It’s interesting to see but it just seems so antiseptic in there, like they’re going to hook me up to a tea IV or a tea enema or something.
Okay, that comment just almost made tea come out of my nose! You need to warn a girl before being funny.
