Bad for Business
So, there’s a movie being filmed downtown (right around Cesar Chavez park) and it has been causing quite a commotion. I haven’t done a lick of research on the movie (but hear that it’s starring Charlie Murphy and the little dude from Bad Santa), but I know it has wreaked havoc on some local businesses.
I went to get a much-needed pedicure at a shop on 9th and K on Saturday afternoon and drove around for 15 minutes looking for a spot (all available parking spots were reserved for film production). Once inside, the ladies at the shop said business had been slow all day, and the parking restrictions should have been lifted by mid-afternoon (WRONG-they were limiting parking until 11 at night). I could deal with all that, but I got annoyed at people coming into the nail place and YELLING at the women who worked there that there was no parking…because it’s there fault HOW?!?!?!?!
Can’t wait to see the movie!!!

The movie is called The Hustle.
And Oh My God, it was hard to find a parking spot so that you can get your much needed pedicure? Whatever!
Move the hell to Yuba City so you don’t have to worry about finding a parking spot for your much needed pedicure.
My point was that all local businesses were suffering…get a clue…I like to support local Sacramento businesses and this has nothing to do with moving to Yuba City and contributing to traffic and sprawl in the Sacramento region.
I just hope someone is doing well with this movie since I knwo FIRSTHAND that downtown businesses are not doing well.
Pedicure - beautiful feet, how vain is that?
Our whole office is getting a kick out of this.
So your point was that downtown businesses will suffer from having a movie shot in downtown Sacramento because of the strain on parking?
What about the economic lift for hotels, restaurants, permits, etc. from shooting the film?
If all you have is “parking sucks”, then your thinking is small and apropos of Yuba City. I’m with Chris on this one.

Glad I can keep the office entertained…lest you have to actually do any work!!! Glad you and Chris are together on this one…I’m happy that the Hyatt can make more money and charge more than their normal inflated rates in order to have small shops suffer…my point was that the businesses weren’t even properly notified and it was unfair for them to be yelled at by customers when they had no control over the schedule.
These comments are making Yuba City look better and better all the time!
Cheers! While we’re reading this, we’re drinking Starbucks coffee with hopes to put the Mom & Pop Coffee Shops out of business.
We’re eagerly waiting for your next post titled “Oh My Gosh, Multi-grain bagels are so gross”.
Hmm…not a bad title…thanks for the suggestion…they are gross..no slef-repsecting Jew ever goes for the whole wheat, multi-grain, or blueberry bagels.
Here’s a suggestion-if the blog is that boring and meaningless to you, then don’t waste your time reading it and commenting on it…wouldn’t want to disturb what I assume is a vibrant and active social life…
Way to get defensive Amanda. We’re just trying to spark some passionate comments like you told Mad Dog in your “Ricks Dessert Diner is yucky” post.
I wasn’t getting defensive…it was a joke…can you all dish it out and not take it!???!?!
That’s the pot calling the kettle black (it wasn’t a joke). I think that Amanda is the defensive one, and worse, a last-word freak.
I won’t be back, but have fun Chris and April pushing Amanda’s buttons!
Wouch! Comment central!
Chris Black, where will you go? And do they let humorless sorts like me in?
I personally wouldn’t want to go to Yuba City. All I can think of are peaches and meaningless murders…although Sac has the lion’s share of both. Guess we’re still number1! Woo hoo!
I bet you Chris comes back..final word!!!
