Open House for Nerds

Cool, the California Museum for History, Women, and the Arts (because you know women and art aren’t very historical) will be hosting an OPEN HOUSE Saturday evening which includes FREE admission to the museum, and free parking. The primary purpose is to show would-be researchers a glimpse at the archives.

It’s 4-8 PM on Saturday evening, October 6th, and there’ll be refreshments. But I don’t think it’ll be much more than clear kool-aid (so as not to stain the documents) and maybe a few Costco cookies. (Have you ever noticed how cheap those cookies are?)

Oh yeah, the museum is at 10th and O streets, in the heart of downtown, a mere few steps away from our own beloved white house, the State Capitol building.

Koki Club Time!

I am a big fan of Mikuni’s sushi and if anyone else is, you should take sometime to go online and fill out a membership application for the Koki Club. It’s a FREE membership card that you collect points on each time you visit and spend $$ at the restaurant. The points accumulate to FREE FOOD or PRIZES!! I worked it out and it’s about 3% cash back…not too bad for $$ you were already going to spend…my trick is to use it when I go out with friends and then I get their points to my card (pretty sneak, huh?).

They’re offering a special intro deal right now that 500 points gets you a $25 gift certificate and a t-shirt…cool, huh?

Not Really a Walk…More Like a Moaning Shuffle

Since we’re on the subject of ambling, I highly suggest that you roll by the upcoming Zombification on October 13. You can preview the yummy, brainy delights by checking a recent Brainfest in San Francisco. This one is gonna take off from Sub Q in Midtown at 6pm. Get there by 5:15 for pre-brain noshes and assistance with your Method Zombie. It would probably also help to read the brilliant novel World War Z, just to get some perspective.

If you already *are* a zombie (warning signs: insert snarky low-culture reference here), then all I can say is:

BRAINS!!!

Since we’re talking walks

This weekend, October 6th, there’ll be two gatherings at the Capitol. On one side, you can participate in the Walk for Mental Health, and the other side of the building will be the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk. I’d tell you which side was which, but I can’t remember… (D’oh, sorry Memere! Memere, my grandmama, died in 2002 after a long slow decline with Alzheimer’s.) It is my obnoxious opinion that both events are worthwhile.

So, got that? It’s a two-fer…two walks, one place. Saturday, October 6th. Starts fairly early on Saturday morning, so grab a cuppa from the Naked Lounge on your way over. They have some of the best lattes in Sactown. And that’s unforgettable.

Don’t Have a Cow, Man!

Don’t have a cow…BE a cow…come out on Sunday to Land Park and run/walk/jog is the 3rd Annual Sacramento Cowtown Marathon/Half Marathon/Relay/5K Run-Walk. You can register the day of the race, and the proceeds benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. You get a Microfiber Cowtown shirt and plenty of race day chum and snacks (I have a collection of pens and energy bars from these races in my house).

See you there!

Bad for Business 2

I HATE Rick’s Dessert Diner…don’t go there…ever!

Bad for Business

So, there’s a movie being filmed downtown (right around Cesar Chavez park) and it has been causing quite a commotion. I haven’t done a lick of research on the movie (but hear that it’s starring Charlie Murphy and the little dude from Bad Santa), but I know it has wreaked havoc on some local businesses.

I went to get a much-needed pedicure at a shop on 9th and K on Saturday afternoon and drove around for 15 minutes looking for a spot (all available parking spots were reserved for film production). Once inside, the ladies at the shop said business had been slow all day, and the parking restrictions should have been lifted by mid-afternoon (WRONG-they were limiting parking until 11 at night). I could deal with all that, but I got annoyed at people coming into the nail place and YELLING at the women who worked there that there was no parking…because it’s there fault HOW?!?!?!?!

Can’t wait to see the movie!!!
